KPK NOT TO CLOSE BANK CENTURY CASE YET

Jakarta, Nov 27 (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will not as yet close the Bank Century case although it has so far not found any indication of corruption in the huge financial bailout case, a spokesam said.

"The possibility of KPK closing the Bank Century case is between zero and 100 percent. We do not know but I hope it will remain open," KPK deputy chairman Bibit Samar Riyanto said here on Friday.

He said until now there were no new developments relating to the case.

He said KPK and the House of Representatives had a different view with regard to the results of investigation by the KPK into the case.

"This is our opinion. Their opinion may be different from ours. The law we used to deal with the case is the same but it is the interpretation that is different," he said.

On November 24, before the House of Representatives' Bank Century Case Settlement Monitoring Team, KPK commissioner M Jasin said that KPK had discovered no evidence indicating corruption having been committed in the process to bail out the failing bank.

Based on the results of KPK's analysis and investigation, Jasin said no evidence had been found showing an ill will relating to the decision made by Bank Indonesia officials to help save the Century Bank they considered a failed bank that could cause a systemic effect.

The House of Representatives' Team who felt dissatisfied over the KPK's report decided to discuss the case in detail with the KPK next Wednesday on December 1.

KPK had been assigned to investigate alleged corruption committed by state officials in the Century Bank case. In connection with that Jasin said KPK had already questioned former Bank Indonesia governor now the vice president and former finance minister Sri Mulyani now a World Bank director who were responsible in deciding to bailout the bank in 2008.
